The Town of Chincoteague, Division of Emergency Medical Services (CEMS), provides twenty-four hour Advanced Life Support response to the citizens and visitors of Chincoteague Island.  One full-time and one part-time provider staff these services.

CEMS functions within the Town of Chincoteague, Department of Emergency Services, along with the Division of Emergency Management and has an initial service area of approximately 57 square miles of residential, business, marshland, woodland, water, and seashore.

CEMS works jointly with the members of the Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Company Rescue Squadron to provide Advanced Life Support and transportation of sick and/or injured patients.

CEMS full-time medics work a twenty-four hour on and seventy-two hour off schedule and work out of the Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Department, Station 3, at 4028 Main Street, Chincoteague Island, VA, 23336.

CEMS also provides Emergency Medical Response to Assateague Island and assists the United States Coast Guard with Search and Rescue cases when requested.

Mutual Aid is also provided to and received from mainland communities.

Community Service:

Citizens and visitors can visit Station 3 for free blood pressure and blood glucose screenings daily from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm (dependent on crew availability).  The crewmembers will also be happy to give a tour of the famous Station 3 Fire House and its equipment.

Should your community group need a guest speaker on safety, health, or medical topics, please contact the Director of Emergency Services to schedule such event.
